Active Directory, Security and Disaster Recovery

Challenge: With dynamic growth, it became clear that the firm's size and business needs required more focus on its technology platform and tools to provide for an efficient working environment. Anti-spam, security, data storage, disaster recovery, secure email for HIPPA compliance, automated conflict checking and several other areas became focal points for the firm's management and IT department.

Intellinet Solution: After performing a network assessment, Intellinet redesigned their core network to include Ethernet switches and WINS and completed an Active Directory design that led to a full deployment for two offices and over 300 users. The server deployment was complemented with initiatives to reduce administration and prevent data loss. Intellinet also developed a standard desktop image for Windows 2000 Professional and automated the deployment. SMS was optimized to provide server and workstation management and software deployment. A disaster recovery plan for Exchange 2000 was implemented along with MailMarshal to reduce spam. To meet the firm's growing data capacity and high-performance needs, Intellinet completed a SAN and high-availability fault tolerance solution for increased storage and improved reliability. Designing and implementing a Conflict Checker has automated a very labor-intensive process and provided stronger efficiency and insightful reporting to the firm's management.

Active Directory, Windows Migration

Challenge: McKenna Long & Aldridge was faced with increasing support costs to maintain their desktop environment. The issues focused primarily on user support of the network and messaging systems. The administration of the system was burdensome and reliability issues were evident by increased calls to the help desk. The firm also had an increased desire to move to an “industry standard” platform that would support new initiatives and the firm’s expansion.

Intellinet Solution: McKenna Long & Aldridge recognized that Windows 2000 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 provided the desktop services, enterprise directory and messaging platform to meet the company’s objectives. Intellinet was selected due to their history of success with Microsoft migrations and experience in the legal industry. Over 500 attorneys and staff were migrated to Windows 2000 Professional on the desktop after application compatibility testing for over 100 applications. The back office environment was migrated from Novell NDS to Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory and Novell Groupwise was migrated to Microsoft Exchange.
The increased stability and integration of the systems is noticeable by increased employee satisfaction and reduced calls to the help desk. The firm believes their best interests were always considered by Intellinet and credits Intellinet with a thorough migration strategy that minimized the impact of end users. Intellinet also exposed unrecognized value in the products that are leveraged by the firm such as web access to email, group collaboration, enhanced Outlook functionality with Exchange and systems management with Active Directory. McKenna Long & Aldridge are thankful they made the major decision to migrate their systems to the Microsoft platform.

Active Directory, Exchange Migration

Challenge: Sutherland Asbill & Brennan (the firm) current knowledge and expertise focused on a Novell and GroupWise environment that was bound to suffer from inadequate support due to application vendors integrating more with Microsoft platforms. They needed to migrate to a more stable and supportable environment and empower its IT organization with the knowledge and retooling necessary to support the migration.

Intellinet Solution: The firm engaged Intellinet to help migrate from their current operating system to a technology that is better supported and can scale with future growth. On the server side, they migrated to Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory, Exchange 2000, SMS and NetIQ. Intellinet researched, documented and deployed multiple Compaq HA/F200 File, Print and Exchange 2000 cluster servers for high availability. On the desktop side, the team developed a standard desktop image for Windows XP Professional and automated the deployment process. Prior to deployment, over 100 desktop applications were compatibility screened and tested. With approximately 900 desktops, the XP rollout process and methodology saved significant time and money. By leveraging automated scripts, 'snapshots' were taken of existing desktop profiles and data, thus making the rollout process a successful implementation of one base image across disparate hardware platforms.

Windows Server, Directory and Exchange Migration

Challenge: Wyche Burgess Freeman & Parham, PA (the firm) was facing expiring hardware and software leases on their older systems. They needed a consulting firm to help them migrate from their current technology platform to a complete front-end (desktop) and back-end (server) solution. After speaking with several top southeastern law firms that worked with Intellinet on similar engagements, the firm selected Intellinet to lead this technology initiative. The firm was concerned about the desktop migration - glitches that would cause downtime and affect their ability to conduct business as usual.

Intellinet Solution: Intellinet worked with the firm to develop a three- to four-year technology plan to ensure that they could not only maximize current technology investments, but could also proactively look at ways to save money in planned technology expenses for the desired timeline. The migration involved implementing Windows 2003 Server Active Directory, Exchange 2003, Windows XP, Office XP and SQL 2000. In addition, Intellinet helped integrate various third-party applications to their current versions and assisted with evaluating storage and backup solutions for extensibility. Intellinet delivered a smooth desktop migration - mitigating any downtime - and developed an efficient and effective migration toolset. The project was a success and was further highlighted for the firm as the project was implemented and delivered on time and under budget.
